My mother is a stroke survivor. She is also very stubborn, or should I say strong-willed. But she’s become more so since she suffered from her stroke.
Well, one day, she decided to go out on her own. My dad was a bit worried, but my mother was having none of it. I reckon he also knew that he had to let her regain her independence. I mean she’d been out on her own a couple of times before, so it wasn’t as if she couldn’t manage it.
Anyway, on such a day, she ventured out to say hello to the world. Hours later, she came back upset. There was a man with her. He explained who he was; he worked at the train station my mother had used. He went on to explain what had happened.
He had noticed my mother at the train station looking disorientated and upset. He approached her and asked what the problem was. It turned out my mother had gotten to that station (a stop away from where she lived) and couldn’t remember how to get home. I can’t imagine how fearful that must have been for her.
He proceeded to help her find her train, got on it with her and saw her off at the right station. Not only did he do that, he then went on to walk her home, making sure she got there safe and sound.
My dad opened the door and all was well.
This guy, this gentleman, this gentle helpful soul went above and beyond what most members of staff would have done. I don’t think walking an old lady home is within their remit! And yet he did just that. He didn’t think about the consequences, what he could or couldn’t do, he was simply one human being helping another.
I didn’t have the opportunity to meet him as I don’t live with my folks. But if I had met him, I’d have given him a big hug for helping an old upset lady out.
I really appreciate what he did for my mother. I dread to think what might have happened otherwise. But as it were, he did what is in all of us to do, and I’ll forever appreciate that.
I hope he receives every blessing that’s due to him and that it continues to filter down to him in beautiful magical ways.
I’m grateful to him. And inspired.
